Biomes
According to Dictionary.com, a biome is a complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, especially such a community that has developed to climax. More easily explained, it is an environment that includes all of the organisms living in it. There are many different types of biomes, described below.
Tropical Rain Forest

Tropical Rain Forest biomes have the most amount of species living here out of all of the other biomes. It's abiotic factors include a hot and wet climate, and thin, nutrient poor soil. Biotic factors include lots of very tall trees and animals ranging from small herbivores to large snakes. It is located in parts of South and Central America, southeast Asia, parts of Africa, southern India, and northeastern Australia.
Tropical Dry Forest

Tropical dry forests are similar to tropical rain forests, but grow in places with seasonal rain, not rain all year round. It's abiotic factors include generally warm weather year-round, alternating wet and dry seasons, and rich soil. Biotic factors include tall, deciduous trees, tigers, monkeys, large herbivores like elephants, and many types of birds. It's located in parts of Africa, South and Central America, Mexico, India, Australia, and tropical islands.
Tropical Savanna

The tropical savanna biome recieves more rainfall than deserts, but less than tropical forests or grasslands, and doesn't have as many trees. It's abiotic factors include warm temperature, seasonal rainfall, compact soil, and frequent fires. The main biotic factors are the tall, spread out grass, predators like lions or cheetahs, herbivores like elephants or zebras, and birds like eagles. It is located in large parts of eastern Africa, southern Brazil, and northern Australia.
Temperate Grassland

Lots of the Temperate Grasslands that used to be located in the mid-western United States have started to be used more for agricultural purposes now. Abiotic factors here include warm/hot summers, cold winters, seasonal precipitation, fertile soils, and occasional fires. Biotic factors include lots of grass, coyotes and other predators, deer, and hawks. It is located in central Asia, North America, Australia, central Europe, and upland plateuas of South America.
Desert

Deserts all receive little rainfall and are very dry. Abiotic factors include low precipitation, very high and very low precipitation, and soil. The main biotic factors are cacti, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and other organisms that are suited to this type of environment. It is located in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, United States, Mexico, South America, and Australia.
Temperate Woodland and Shrubland

Abiotic factors here include hot, dry summers, cool moist winters, thin soil, and periodic fires. Biotic factors include shrubs, predators like coyotes and foxes, herbivores like deer and rabbit, and many types of birds. It is located in western coasts of North and South America, areas around the Mediteranean Sea, South Africa, and Australia.
Temperate Forest

Temperate Forests contain a mixture of deciduous and Coniferous trees. The abiotic factors here include cold to moderate winters, warm summers, yearround precipitation, and fertile soil. Biotic factors inlclude many trees and shrubs, deer, black bears, turkeys, and skunks. It is located in eastern United States, southeastern Canada, most of Europe, and parts of Japan, China, and Australia.
Northwestern Coniferous Forest

Moist air from the Pacific Ocean gives this climate lots of rainfall. It's abiotic factors include mild temperatures, abundant precipitation the majority of the year, and rocky soil. It's biotic factors consist of redwood, bears, elk and members of the weasel family. It is located in the Pacific coast of northwestern United States and Canada, and from northern California to the Alaska Boreal forest.
Boreal Forest

Boreal Forest biomes are mainly located in the northen hemisphere. It's abiotic factors include moderate precipitation, high humidity, and acidic, nutrient-poor soil. It's biotic factors include many coniferous trees, predators like lynx, small herbivores, moose, and migratory birds. It is located in North America, Asia, and northern Europe.
Tundra

Tundras land is pretty much an environment with a permanently frozen ground. It's abiotic factors include strong winds, low precipitation, short and soggy summers, long, cold, dark winters, and permafrost. It's biotic factors include a few ground-hugging plants, a few birds and mammals that can deal with these conditions, and other migoratory animals. It is located in northern North America, Asia, and Europe.
